Romelu Lukaku hints Chelsea fans about his return to former club

Romelu Lukaku has hinted that a return to Belgian club Anderlecht where he started his career will happen “much sooner than you might think.”

Lukaku returned to Chelsea in the summer of 2021 for best part of £100m from Inter Milan, and despite a good start things turned sour very quickly and the move has been nothing short of a disaster.

The Belgium international has spent the last two seasons on loan at Inter and Roma as Chelsea look to find a way of selling him permanently.

Lukaku hints at Anderlecht return

When Lukaku left for Roma last summer Chelsea put an exit clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for £38m, with the Blues expecting that amount to be paid in full.

Lukaku has interest from the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Ahli reportedly a side to keep an eye on, but the 31-year-old is thought to want to stay in Europe.

Links to Napoli have intensified since the appointment of his former manager Antonio Conte, and they are set to be on the hunt for a new striker with star man Victor Osimhen expected to depart this summer.

Recent reports in Italy suggested AC Milan had made contact with Chelsea over a move for Lukaku, with Fabrizio Romano adding the Blues have no plans to loan the striker out again.

Lukaku is currently preparing for Euro 2024, but in an interview he dropped another hint over his future.

“Anderlecht? That return will certainly happen, much sooner than you might think, I miss my mother, my children, I left my country at eighteen,” he told journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

Whilst the Blues are looking to sell Lukaku, they are in the market to sign a striker to compliment Nicolas Jackson, and have been strongly linked with a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko who has a release clause of £55m.
