Chelsea have already agree to sign £50m rated Denmark international player

Chelsea have shown a bit of interest in one Premier League star recently.

Despite profit and sustainability rules, Chelsea will want to strengthen their squad in the summer.

It has been a poor season for the Blues, who have missed out on Champions League qualification once again.

They are ninth in the Premier League table, five points behind Newcastle United in seventh.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s men can reduce that gap to two with a win against Tottenham Hotspur tonight, but Europa Conference League football would not have been their aim at the start of the season.

Because of Thiago Silva’s impending departure, Chelsea may have to sign a new central defender this summer.

Silva confirmed that he will be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season earlier this week and is reportedly attracting interest from a few London clubs. So who could replace the Brazilian?

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have had “slight” interest in Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen recently.

On his Substack, Phillips wrote: “Underrated defender in my view, and one I’d be very interested to see us linked with. We have had ‘slight’ interest in him recently but nothing big. Could spark up again.”

Last summer, The Sun claimed that Palace wanted around £50m for the 27-year-old when Tottenham Hotspur were interested in him.

Would Joachim Andersen be a good signing for Chelsea?

If Chelsea do want to replace Silva, then Andersen is the kind of profile that they should be looking at.

At 27 and having made over 130 appearances in the Premier League, he has a good amount of experience, something that this Chelsea squad is severely lacking.

Over the last year, Andersen has ranked in the 92nd percentile for clearances among central defenders (FBref), so this is someone who knows how to deal with danger.

If Chelsea do go on to land the Denmark international, he would not be a bad addition to their side.
