Big announcements from Stamford Bridge as Chelsea complete double deals

Big announcements coming out this afternoon reports that Chelsea have extended the contracts of two first team stars.

As we are all aware, Chelsea’s new owners have been signing new players on long-term contracts to help amortise the large transfer fees in terms of profit in order to balance the books for the financial rules.

And now it looks like as well as that, there are options to extend some of these contracts even further.

The news has come on a Chelsea match day today, a game that it looks like Mauricio Pochettino could be without Raheem Sterling for. But one player who is expected to be involved is Mykhailo Mudryk, and Enzo Fernandez will need a late assessment to see whether he makes it or not after a recent injury issue.

And it is the latter two players who have had their contracts extended by the club, according to a report from The Evening Standard this lunchtime in the build up to tonight’s game against Everton at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

They report Chelsea have exercised options to extend Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk’s long contracts into their 30s.

Documents have revealed Fernandez has 8 years left on his £180,000-a-week deal which runs until 2032, while Mudryk has 7 years on his £97,000-a-week deal until 2031.

This means nothing much in the grand scheme of things of course and just secures Chelsea’s valuation on both players and also, as said above, balances the financial books to keep in line with profit rules. It’s actually a very clever ploy from Chelsea and another loophole they found out and made the most of.

It forced another rule change but by then Chelsea had already made the most of the loophole anyway. Whether Mudryk and Enzo stay at Chelsea well into their 30s or not, remains to be seen and is highly doubtful.
