UEFA reportedly announce sanction for London club after team manager accused of foul play

Porto head coach Sergio Conceicao accused Mikel Arteta of insulting his family during Arsenal’s thrilling Champions League victory.

David Raya was the hero for Arsenal, who reached the last 16 for the first time since 2010, when he saved two penalty kicks in a thrilling match.

But the game was marred by clashes between the two sets of players and the bench, while rival coaches Arteta and Conceicao got into heated arguments after the final whistle.

Conceicao claims that Arteta disrespected his loved ones during the match.

“The result was unfair. Our team deserved to be promoted,” the Porto boss said.

“What Arteta said in Spanish towards the bench had an insulting effect on my family. He should concentrate on his team’s training.

Arteta denied Sergio Conceicao’s allegations but, according to club sources, the Spaniard said nothing about his rival’s family.

However, the Gunners boss said of his team’s victory: “It was a magical night. It was what we expected, against a tough opponent who was very well organised,” said Arteta.

“We scored a beautiful goal. It’s a great experience for us, we needed a penalty kick and we prepared well for it.

“We found a way, I can see how much they want to win. How much they sacrificed. When you play like that, sooner or later it will work out.

I’ve probably never experienced such an atmosphere at the Emirates, it was incredible from start to finish. I thank them a lot and today I think they influenced the game.

Arteta added about scoring: “We practice in training, some missed, but in the end you have to do it on the night.

It’s a big step for the club, but the best thing is that we are not satisfied and we want to go to the next round.

Raya added: “Obviously it’s a great feeling for me personally, the first time in the Champions League and for the club to qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time in so many years.

“We played a very good game from the start. We dominated, we created chances and it was the penalty kicks that made the difference. We have worked a lot on penalties this year and all the hard work with the goalkeeping coach and the team paid off.
