Chelsea confirm star player joins Mauricio Pochettino's squad at Cobham

Chelsea have had several players away representing their countries during this month’s international break, so we’re guessing it’s been a lot quieter than normal around the training ground at Cobham.

Thankfully, the Blues return to action this Saturday against Burnley in the Premier League, with the international stars returning to west London this week.

As a result of so many absentees, it’s no surprise that some academy talents have stepped into first-team training to help make up the numbers.

Chelsea confirmed yesterday that several youngsters were drafted in to train alongside the seniors.

Chelsea shared via their official website on Tuesday that a crop of youngsters trained with Mauricio Pochettino’s main group, including goalkeeper Teddy Curd.

The 18-year-old gloveman was involved in first-team training on Tuesday with the Blues.

In addition, academy talents Deivid Washington, Jimi Tauriainen, Leo Castledine and Dylan Williams were also promoted to mix it with the seniors.

For Chelsea supporters that don’t keep a close eye on the club’s large academy, Curd is one of several talented young goalkeepers on the books.

The teenage keeper is yet to make his first-team debut for the Blues, but it must be a great experience working alongside the first-team group.

In fairness, the London-born youngster did make a matchday squad for the second leg of Chelsea’s semi-final victory over Middlesbrough back in January in the League Cup.

Hopefully, it’s not too long before he’s handed a first appearance.

Curd has been in Chelsea’s youth development system since joining the Under-9s, so it’s another great story to tell from the academy.

He’s previously had a loan spell with Hashtag United, plus represented England up to the Under-18s age group.

We’d guess that a loan spell to a Football League club in the near future could be a sensible next step.
