Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is understood to be open to rejoining Chelsea at the end of the season amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Marc Guehi wants to wait until the summer to make a big move and a return to Chelsea can’t be ruled out. That is according to a report from 90Min, who claim that Guehi is ‘open’ to returning to Stamford Bridge.
Guehi has become one of the Premier League’s top centre backs since leaving Chelsea for Palace in 2021.
Now seemingly nailed on for a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad if fit, Guehi is a man in demand.
90Min claim that Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in signing Guehi.
Chelsea are watching Guehi closely too and the Palace defender is understood to be open to a Stamford Bridge return.
However, Guehi only wants to move at the end of the season rather than during the January transfer window.
Guehi is playing a key role at Palace and he wants to keep starring ahead of Euro 2024.
Moving on in January may put that playing time at risk given that he would have to settle into a new club.
Guehi doesn’t want to take that gamble and is ready to see out the season with Palace before potentially making a big move.
Tottenham understandably like Guehi; he has been outstanding since joining Palace.
There are a couple of reasons why we can’t see Guehi joining Spurs though, starting with reports that Palace want around £75million for Guehi.
That would be a club-record fee for Tottenham and we can’t see them paying that kind of money when they need to build up squad depth.
Tottenham already have a quality right-sided centre back too with Cristian Romero enjoying a strong season before his red card against Chelsea.
Signing Guehi just doesn’t add up for Tottenham in 2024 and we think a move to Chelsea is more likely.
The Blues are looking for the long-term heir to Thiago Silva and Guehi – who spent 14 years on Chelsea’s books – may feel that he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.
Guehi has proven himself away from Chelsea and 2024 may be the right time for a return if the Blues are willing to splash more cash in the transfer market.
